WASHINGTON (AP) -- District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray says he's nominating the chief financial officer for the city of Phoenix to the same post in Washington.
Gray announced his nomination of Jeffrey DeWitt on Thursday. DeWitt has served as Phoenix's chief financial officer since 2009 and has worked for the city's finance department since 1994. In Phoenix, DeWitt managed a $3.4 billion budget. Washington's city budget is approximately $10 billion.
DeWitt has a bachelor's degree in geology and earth science from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Ill. and a master's degree in water resource management from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill.
DeWitt would replace Natwar M. Gandhi, who is stepping down after more than a decade.
