Frager’s Hardware takes another step toward rebuilding

WASHINGTON – Frager’s Hardware will re-open its paint store Saturday, just doors from where the landmark Southeast D.C. store burned down in June.

The new location is at 1129 Pennsylvania Ave, which used to be the Mi Vencidad restaurant. The space was procured in July, says store manager Juan Wilson.

It’s smaller than the old store, but Wilson says it’s still big enough to house all of their paint supply products.

“We have brushes, rollers, tape, dry wall patching, you name it, we’ve got it if it’s paint related,” he says.

The iconic Frager’s Hardware store, which is now covered in wooden boards within a chain linked fence, sits just three doors to the right of the new paint shop.

Wilson says crews have worked seven-day work weeks to get the store ready for its Saturday re-opening, and passersby have stopped with words of encouragement.

“We’re happy to be back. We realize we’re a part of this community. We know our role in it, and we’re back to fulfill that role,” Wilson says.

The store will open at 7 a.m. Saturdays and close at 5:55 p.m. Monday through Friday hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday it’ll be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A grand opening celebration will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with free prize and ticket giveaways.
