WASHINGTON -- An emaciated dog was found dead and wrapped in a blanket in a Southeast dumpster on Wednesday and the Washington Humane Society is offering an award for information about who left him there.
The tan and white adult male pit bull was underweight, had extremely long nails and a large wound on his back right leg.
The dog's body was found in a dumpster located in the rear of the rear of the 3100 block of Buena Vista Terrace in Southeast.
The Washington Humane Society released a news release with a picture of the animal announcing a $2,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for "this horrific act of animal cruelty," says the release.
Anyone with information is asked to call WHS's Humane Law Enforcement Department at 202-723-5730, ext. 132. Or, email Officer Ann Russell at email@example.com.
Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly referred to the Washington Animal Rescue League (WARL) as the organization that released the photo of the dog and that should be contacted with information.
