WASHINGTON (AP) -- National Zoo officials say a gas line has been struck at a construction site on zoo grounds, but the zoo is open.
Spokeswoman Pamela Baker-Mason says the gas line was struck Monday morning at a construction site along North Road in northwest Washington, but all animals and people at the zoo are OK.
Baker-Mason says some staffers reported smelling gas inside buildings, but it was determined that the scent was coming in through vents to the outside. She says staffers who do smell gas are being advised to go outside as a precaution.
