Barricade shuts roads in SE DC for hours

Wednesday - 8/14/2013, 6:20pm  ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A barricade situation led police to close southeast Washington roads for hours.

Officers tried to serve a warrant at a home in the 1300 block of East Capitol Street on Tuesday night, but police say a man refused to come out. SWAT negotiators arrived around midnight. The man surrendered around 9 a.m. Wednesday. A police spokesman says at a woman was in the apartment when police tried to execute the warrant and was held against her will but escaped.

Police identified the man as 25-year-old David Joseph Robertson. Robertson was facing a charge of assault on a police officer. A judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear in court. Reached by telephone, Robertson's lawyer said he wasn't aware of the situation and declined comment.
