WASHINGTON (AP) -- A former campaign aide to District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray has been charged with lying to federal investigators.
Prosecutors accuse Vernon Hawkins of lying about his role in obstructing a federal campaign finance investigation.
The U.S. Attorney's office filed a criminal information Monday charging Hawkins with a single count of making a false statement. That charging document typically indicates a defendant's plans to plead guilty.
Hawkins' lawyer didn't immediately return a message seeking comment.
