More than a thousand without power in D.C.

WASHINGTON – The number of Pepco customers without power in the downtown D.C. area is changing by the minute.

As of midnight Friday, roughly 1,200 were without power. At one point, about 5,200 customers are out of power in the Logan Circle area.

D.C. police reported that 11th Street is closed between Rhode Island Avenue to O Street NW due to a blown transformer at 1100 P Street NW.

Pepco says it believes it is related to two underground power lines. Crews are investigating. There are no estimates on restoration time.

Metro has not been affected by the outage but it is warning that rail service may experience minor delays during the evening rush due to heat-related speed restrictions in above-ground areas.
