‘Once Wild’ aims for artistic revolution (Video)

WASHINGTON – Ready to experience an artistic revolution?

“Once Wild: Isadora in Russia” opens this weekend at Georgetown University’s Davis Performing Arts Center in collaboration with Word Dance Theater.

The performance is a moving mix of multiple disciplines and media. Creator and choreographer Cynthia Word says it’s as revolutionary as its subject, 1920s dancer Isadora Duncan.

“Isadora was very interested, even back in the 1900s, in doing works that were more like the Greek theater where you had theater and dance fully integrated,” says Word.

“It was the end of her life, it was the end of a revolution, there was the love affair with (poet Sergei Esenin), it had so much potential to have drama and passion and message, that I really wanted to do this.”

The performances are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Davis Performing Arts Center, Gonda Theatre. Tickets range in price from $10 to $25 and can be ordered online.
