Idling D.C. police cruiser taken for joyride and crashed

WASHINGTON – A D.C. police sergeant could be facing disciplinary action after someone took his police cruiser for a short joyride and crashed it Monday afternoon.

The sergeant, who is not being identified at this time, responded to a 911 hang up call along with another officer. He left his cruiser open and running on Fort Davis Place in Southeast D.C.

At some point someone took the police cruiser on a short ride before crashing it.

The joyrider got away, but not before causing some damage to the car.

The sergeant whose car was taken for a ride has been on the force for more than 10 years. At some point he was assigned to the auto theft unit.

Police don’t have a description of the joyrider, but they are talking to witnesses.
