A D.C. Council bill that would require large retailers to pay higher wages will get a hearing next Wednesday before the Business, Consumer and Regulatory Affairs committee, The Washington Post reported.
The bill would require those retailers to pay wages no lower than $11.75 per hour plus benefits. "Large retailers" are defined as businesses operating an indoor store of at least 75,000 square feet and whose corporate parent has sale of at least $1 billion — which include Wal-Mart, Costco and Home Depot.
