WASHINGTON - More than 3,000 people are expected to march on the National Mall on Saturday in support of tighter gun control legislation in the U.S.
Organizers of the March on Washington for Gun Control say they got the idea three weeks ago after hearing about the elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn.
On its website, organizers say the march will begin 10 .am. at the Capitol Reflecting Pool on 3rd Street NW, across from the Museum of the American Indian. Then, the march will progress down Constitution Avenue, ending in a rally with speeches and music at the Washington Monument northeast quadrant.
Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray and other local and national leaders are expected to speak at the event.
The group wants "Congress to enforce a 28 day waiting period, require mandatory gun safety training before the purchase of a gun, and outlaw bullets that shatter in the body," according to their website.
