Dunbar edges past Anacostia 12-8 in annual Turkey Bowl

WASHINGTON – For the past 43 years, the D.C. high school football championship has been decided on Thanksgiving Day in the Turkey Bowl. And this year’s game was a close one.

It was the third-consecutive time the Dunbar Crimson Tide played in the D.C. championship game held at Eastern Senior High School near RFK Stadium. This year, Dunbar faced the Anacostia High School Indians.

The game got off to a slow start but picked up in the second quarter when the two teams combined for three touchdowns. But the big play of the day was a 44-yard interception for a touchdown by Dunbar.

D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray, who played sports as a student at Dunbar, was among the hundreds of people young and old who came to watch the game.
