WASHINGTON - Now that superstorm Sandy has left the region dry and mostly with power, it's time to plan your weekend adventures.
Two art exhibits are opening in Anacostia Friday night. "Divine Revelations: Passages from the Life of Our Lady" is a photo exhibit that explores the history and imagery of Roman Catholicism. The opening reception goes from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at a temporary gallery space located at 1922 MLK Jr Ave. SE. Call 202-365-8392 for more information.
"Steppin' Out" also debuts Friday at Honfleur Gallery. Artist Michael B. Platt reinterprets life-sized cutouts of charcoal drawings on wood that were made in the 1980s and 1990s. He uses digital images from a recent trip to Australia to bring together this multimedia body of work. Check the gallery's website for more information. Opening reception starts at 7 p.m.
Local children get their say on the presidential race Saturday during Kids' Election Day at Madame Tussauds. Minors will register to vote in D.C., Maryland and Virginia from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and then cast their ballots for either President Barack Obama or former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Results will be announced on Election Day. Children 12 and under get in for free, and those 13 or older get in $10. Tickets are not available online. Call 866-823-9565 for more.
Problem solvers should head to the Arlington Puzzle Festival Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Arlington County Central Library. The "celebration of words, logic, numbers and thinking" will feature crossword puzzles by New York Times puzzlemaster Will Shortz and Sudoku puzzles by U.S. and world champion Thomas Snyder. Whip out that tweed and get ready for a ride through D.C. The fourth annual DC Tweed Ride is Sunday and will be hosted by the folks over at Dandies & Quaintrelles. Make sure to register online for both the ride and the after-party, which will take place at Brixton and includes a burlesque performance by Tansy.
