BALTIMORE - Thousands of residents in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia are without power now that heavy rain and wind from Hurricane Sandy has moved into the area.
Baltimore Gas and Electric said it had more than 5,800 customers without power as of mid-day Monday. Most of the utility's outages were concentrated in Baltimore and Calvert counties and Baltimore city.
Pepco, the electric utility for the District of Columbia, reported outages affecting more than 2,300 customers, primarily in Prince George's County.
In northern Virginia, Dominion reported 420 outages around 12:30 Monday.
