WASHINGTON - The Securities and Exchange Commission has opened an "informal inquiry" into the District of Columbia's Office of the Chief Financial Officer.
The CFO's office says in a letter that the SEC is seeking copies of all internal audits dating to January 2010. CFO Natwar Gandhi was criticized at a recent D.C. Council hearing for his failure to release audits that uncovered problems in the office. The council passed emergency legislation mandating that they be disclosed within 15 days after they are finished.
The CFO's office said in a letter to Mayor Vincent Gray Tuesday that it's cooperating fully with the request.
