Dupont Circle gets 3 new escalators

WASHINGTON - Metro opened the three new escalators at the south entrance of the Dupont Circle station.
Monday is the first work day where riders get to use the escalators after the 8 1/2- month replacement project.
Metro General Manager Richard Sarles says the project was necessary because the old escalators at the south entrance were among the least reliable in the system, and the original manufacturer had gone out of business.
Metro has a multi-year plan to improve escalator service. It plans to replace 94 escalators over the next seven years.
