WASHINGTON - A coalition of religious groups is responding to an advertising campaign in the D.C. mass transit system that equates Muslim radicals with savages.
The coalition, which includes representatives from Christian, Muslim and Jewish groups, will call on Metro on Monday to donate proceeds from the ad campaign to a charity that supports human rights.
The ads were proposed by the American Freedom Defense Initiative. The group sued last month after Metro officials delayed displaying the ads, citing passenger safety and ongoing turmoil in the Middle East.
The ads went up in several Metro stations after a federal judge last week ordered Metro to display them.
The coalition will make its announcement Monday morning at the United Methodist Building.
