WASHINGTON - Now that the Washington Nationals have won the National League East pennant, Nats' fans are eager to see the first postseason Major League Baseball games in D.C. since 1933.

The games start next week either on Oct. 9 or 10 at Nationals Park, says Chris Gargani, Washington Nationals vice president and managing director of ticket sales.

But, if you want to sit down to see the first playoff game, you will have to shop somewhere other than than the Nationals Park box office.

"Game one is essentially sold out," Gargani says.

Fans willing to stand may purchase standing room only tickets, which will be on sale starting 4 p.m. Wednesday. The tickets cost $30 and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at nationals. com/postseason or by calling 888-632-6287. A select number of standing room only tickets will be available at the Nationals Park box office on the day of each game.

The Nats will open the playoffs on the road Sunday if they wind up with the league's best record, or on the road Saturday if the Cincinnati Reds wind up the top seed. That will be determined over the final two days of the season. The two still to be determined wild card teams will clash in a single game Friday to determine which one advances to the National League Division Series.

Most fans are wondering just how far the Nationals will go in the first big league playoffs in D.C. since the Great Depression. From a ticket standpoint, it only gets better the more they win.

More tickets will be available if the Nats make it to the best-of-seven National League Championship Series or the World Series, Gargani says.
