WASHINGTON - D.C. police say a driver was under the influence of alcohol when he crashed his car into another vehicle, trapping two occupants inside as the car caught fire.
Police say the driver and passenger of the car that was struck sustained third-degree burns and were hospitalized Sunday in critical condition. A total of six people were injured as a result of the crash, including two police officers.
The crash occurred around 4:15 a.m. Sunday in the Petworth neighborhood of Northwest Washington. Police say two officers suffered minor burns while freeing the occupants of the car that was struck.
The two occupants of the striking vehicle also suffered minor injuries. Police say the driver, a 38-year-old man, has been charged with driving under the influence. Additional charges are pending.
