WASHINGTON (AP) - The District of Columbia Court of Appeals is preparing for a swearing in ceremony for a new judge.

Roy W. McLeese III will be sworn in at a ceremony on Friday.

McLeese graduated from Harvard in 1981 and received a law degree from New York University School of Law in 1985.

After law school, he served as a law clerk to Justice Antonin Scalia both when Scalia was on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and when Scalia became a U.S. Supreme Court justice.

McLeese previously worked at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia and in the office of the Solicitor General of the United States. McLeese was appointed to his new post by President Barack Obama.
