Flamingo hatches at the National Zoo

WASHINGTON – So many adorable animals, so little time. Meet the latest addition to the National Zoo family: a tiny little flamingo.

The chick was born on July 29 and its sex has still not been determined. It will join the rest of the flock in the next few months when it becomes more independent.

Zookeepers raised the chick by hand because its flock bred irregularly this year and did not make the kinds of nests necessary to raise the little guy.

Zoo-goers will have to wait a few more months for the pink feathers to show, however. Currently, the chick is fluffy and white.
