WASHINGTON - The District of Columbia is receiving federal disaster aid for its recovery efforts after a June 29 storm that cut power to tens of thousands of homes and businesses.
President Barack Obama announced the aid on Tuesday. Obama had previously declared other states as eligible for aid, including Virginia.
The funding can be used by the city government and certain nonprofits to help with the costs of emergency work and repairs related to the storm.
