WASHINGTON - D.C. Councilmember Marion Barry has been hospitalized in Las Vegas.
He developed a blood clot while waiting on a plane in Memphis, according to a post on Barry's Twitter account.
Later at dinner, Barry felt pain in his leg. He was eventually taken to Summerlin Hospital Medical Center where he was given blood thinners, reported NBC 4.
"The blood clot has no impact on my physical feeling or my mental ability," Barry told NBC 4's Tom Sherwood. "I thank God for that."
He took the opportunity to revisit a recent controversy over remarks he made about Asians in the District.
"I also thank outstanding medical staff, incl. kind professional Filipino staff. I stand corrected; I truly didn't mean 2 hurt or offend," he tweeted.
The Ward 8 councilmember is part of a D.C. delegation attending an international shopping convention in Las Vegas.
