WASHINGTON - Police in Washington say a bicyclist was killed when an item he was carrying got lodged in his front wheel.
Police say an officer was flagged down about 5 a.m. Saturday and told about an unconscious person lying in the 700 block of Morton Street, NW.
Police say an investigation determined 28-year-old Antonio Alvarez-Benitez of Washington lost control and fell after the item, which had been tied down, became loose and lodged in the fender, forks and spokes of the front wheel.
Police say he was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
