ABINGDON, Va. - Virginia State Police say authorities are investigating a minor plane crash that occurred while a pilot was landing at Virginia Highlands Airport near Abingdon.
Officials say the 1974 Cessna 180J was in the process of landing Tuesday around noon when the pilot began experiencing some difficulties with the controls. The plane ran off the left side of the runway and struck an embankment. Neither the pilot nor the passenger was injured in the crash. The FAA was notified of the incident.
Police identified the pilot as William Sanford of Orange and the passenger was identified as Charles H. Seilheimer Jr. of Orange.
