Rolls-Royce considers new facility in Va.

Tuesday - 3/6/2012, 11:54am  ET

RICHMOND, Va. - Rolls-Royce is looking at expanding its manufacturing operations in Virginia.

Gov. Bob McDonnell said Tuesday that the global power systems company is considering building an advanced blade manufacturing facility at its Crosspointe site in Prince George County, about 30 miles south of Richmond.

If the company approves the project, McDonnell says groundbreaking would occur by the end of the year. Construction would be completed in 2013 and pre-production operation would begin in 2014.

The 90,000 square-foot-foot plant would produce high-precision turbine blades for aircraft engines. It would employ up 140 workers.

Rolls-Royce North America chairman, president and CEO James M. Guyette says the company envisions creating a hub of advanced manufacturing innovation at Crosspointe.
