DANVILLE, Va. - The Danville Area Humane Society is offering a reward to catch whoever abused a white rat, wrapped it in masking tape and dumped it by the side of a road.
Danville police responding to a report of an animal wrapped in tape found the rat Saturday. Shelter workers called to the scene freed the rat and discovered injuries on its stomach, legs and toes.
Shelter board of directors president Lynn Shelton tells The Danville Register and Bee ( http://bit.ly/zUBSb7) that the shelter takes any animal abuse seriously.
A reward of up to $500 is being offered for information leading an arrest and conviction.
Shelter executive director Paulette Dean says the rat is friendly and may become a permanent shelter pet.
