Cold weather advisories remain in effect until 10 a.m. Monday for the potential of sub‑zero wind chills. Temperatures will rise a little above freezing this afternoon for the first time since Friday, with scattered clouds developing later in the day. Expect some melting, but also expect a refreeze Monday night. Overnight temperatures will fall into the 20s, so continue to watch for slick spots on sidewalks and roads.
Milder weather is expected Tuesday afternoon. Highs are forecast to reach or exceed the average high of 46 degrees. Reagan National Airport has not had above‑average temperatures since Jan. 23. Temperatures south of D.C. are expected to climb into the 50s, which will lead to significant snowmelt.
Wednesday looks cloudy but seasonable, with highs in the mid 40s that should help melt most of the remaining snow and ice.
Besides a few clouds, Thursday will be slightly colder as a weak front moves through the D.C. area, increasing winds. Temperatures should stay mostly above freezing during the day, continuing to melt any leftover snow and ice.
